There are three names that define these woodland native people: 
Ojibwe, a name given to them by others that mean “puckered up” like the style of their  moccasins.
Chippewa, a name given to them by the French because they could not pronounce “Ojibwe” so it came out Chippewa.  This is the name that refers to the Tribe in the treaties with the government.
Anishinabe, a name the people call themselves meaning “original man or one of the first people”
