Stories were told for entertainment but also to teach children about the world around them and how they should behave and respect one another.

Have you ever noticed the shells of turtles?  Some look like they are divided into pieces like a jigsaw puzzle with deep grooves. 

Once, all the turtles had shells as smooth as glass.  There is a traditional story that explains what happened.
