THE SEASONS OF THE DAKOTA

buffalo

PIPESTONE CREEK SINGERS
The Prairie Island Indian Community Buffalo Project started in March 1992 with a gift of a male bison bull from the Lakota Nation of South Dakota.  The buffalo herd now numbers over 60 head.  The buffalo are free to roam within the prairie land pasture along the Mississippi River.  New calves are born each year increasing the size of the herd.

The Buffalo project continues to promote Dakota culture and spirituality and provides bison meat for Tribal members and their families.
