the four seasons of the ojibwe

extension of learning

maude kegg writing activity

Maude Kegg’s story creates a picture about how her life was like when she grew up. They had to walk on dirt roads to get to the local store which was very far away. There were no cars only wagons that used the roads. Candy was a special treat that Maude was willing to walk 5 or 6 miles to get.

Write and illustrate (draw a picture) a short story of an event in your life.

If someone were to read that story in fifty years, what would it tell about the time you grew up?

create your own snake game

Picture
You will need:
4 large craft sticks (The snakes)
10 small craft sticks (The counting sticks)
colored markers, crayons or colored pencils

1.  Decorate the tops of the 4 snakes (large craft sticks)
2.  Leave two bottoms of the snakes plain and make two marks on each of the remaining two snakes.
3.  Now you are ready to play. Shake the snakes and throw them down and how they land will give you points or not.

The points are as follows:
All the tops of the snakes = 1 point
All the bottoms = 1 point
2 tops and 2 plain bottoms = 1 point
2 tops and two bottoms with marks = 2 points

The player with the most points winds the round and gets a counting stick. You can play until all the counting sticks are gone. The player with the most counting sticks wins the game.
