OJIBWE AND DAKOTA MONTHS & SEASONS

New Vocabulary Words

Month – The word month actually means moon.  Months are measured from new moon to new moon.  Since a 12 moon calendar does not exactly fit into the 365 day earth cycle around the sun, some calendars accommodate by adding days onto the months.
Lunar – of or like the moon
Calendar – a system of determining the length and divisions of a year
Phase – a stage in a series or cycle of changes
